Robin A very surprising gem right here that provides a solid mix of black, thrash and death. Stylistically the album reminds me of Keep of Kalessin's Reptilian.
The production is rock solid, the songwriting keeps you always interested and the instrumentation is great - especially the guitar solos.
Very surprising output! Favorite track: The Summoning.

cvltcorgi888 Imagine if Dissection, Emperor, and a handful of thrash bands had a mad, anti-Christian, speedy orgy.

Now, imagine the love child they'd produce and you've got yourself Brotthogg -- a blizzard of melodic, thrashy, black metal that worships at the alters of its forebears.

This is a fantastic release and I'm glad to see bands of this caliber still releasing great content and having fun with it, too!

about

Brotthogg deals in epic 'progressive' black/death/thrash metal that owes its allegiance to bands like Emperor, Old Man's Child, Keep of Kalessin, and Dissection.

With their first full length album following the 2017 EP "The Last Traveler" , Brotthogg presents a fine mixture of modern, melodic, fast-paced epic black/death metal.

The band states: ”We aim to offer our listeners both the superficial adrenalin rush of furiously heavy metal and the deeper, more sustained pleasure that comes via repeated listens. This is black metal influenced heavily by melodic death metal, and strongly laced with elements of thrash, and I hope we have created an ambitious and intriguing release well worth exploring”.

The name Brotthogg is derived from an old forgotten norwegian word that translates to ”The one who has to take care of the job, the unpleasant one”..

"...for those of you who want a more straightforward, unadulterated black metal experience, we’ve got the newest record from Brotthogg. While there are some traces of Vektor-style thrashy parts present, this is by and large weedly, ripping black metal goodness. I really like the way they take black metal tropes and give them a technical twist. Take the riffs on “Broken Chains,” for example; a typical black metal song would use more straightforward voicings of those chords, but the atypical note choice and arpeggiation gives them a much more distinct flavor. I have to give special mention to the lead guitar; the solos on Echoes of the Past are exceptional, and they were the highlights of the album for me. It’s a very compact album at 33 minutes and not an ounce of fat or fluff to be found."
